So, as some people might hear, Volvo’s run for a lot of kilometers, the answer is yes.

With its long experience, I’ve of course visited some place with it. In my possession, the Volvo has seen Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, Denmark, Austria, Italy and perhaps 1 road of France.

At some point the door panels also had to be replaced, I had the model where the glue of the fabric would let loose. I replaced them with ones that are different and a bit newer. In the picture the car can be seen from which it was taken.

At about 545.000 km I also decided to replace the entire dampening of the car. The front end received all new shocks, springs, bearings and shock mounts. The rear got new dampeners and bearings. In the picture you can see the old vs the new bearing in the rear.
I bought it at around 480.000km, which can be seen in the picture
The car had 2 obvious issues, the clutch & the broken interior mirror. But I had just started an internship, was still on student money of course, so I just thought “Eh fuck it, what’s the worst that can happen?”
Nothing happened. (Although I did swap the broken self dimming mirror for a 2nd hand one)
In fact, as of today (11 Dec 2024 with about 548.000km) it still runs with that same clutch. But it had some slip ups recently whilst driving, so now the time really has come to replace it soon.
Currently (20 dec 2024) the interior lights and the remote don’t work for the car, since this works using the interior mirror and the circuitry behind that. As far as I know now, I should have it reprogrammed using the car’s VIN number.

It also works well as a moving van. The trailer in this picture was rated for 2000kg, the combination makes it a bit over the maximum capacity of this volvo and my license, but, as you see, it’s on private property. ;)

Today is 5 Feb 2025. This weekend I was driving home late at night, cruise control at about 130 km/h on the highway, and that is the moment that the clutch padding finally gave up on it’s life.
Road assistance had been called, I pushed the car the last few hundred meters to a petrol station. A few hours of waiting in the middle of the night, with a running engine to keep us warm in freezing temperatures, RA shows up and tows me back to the city I live in. The car parked there, and we’re taken back home. That was the moment that made me decide, it’s time to sell it.

I ended up selling the volvo for €500,- to a guy via marktplaats.nl He said he was going to get a garage to put a new clutch in it. If ended up doing that, he might’ve gotten a good bargain since I just put in about €1.300,- worth of parts.(all new shock dampening & new tires)
Using this link you can check it’s history, where it will show if it keeps getting a new APK (dutch MOT/TUV) and whether it gets demolished. Here you can also notice that during the period I owned it, it was registred to someone else for a short time. That was my ex father in law for the period I was in Japan.
